Labiaplasty – Labia Reconstruction

What kind of procedure is this?
Labioplasty, or labial correction, is a surgical procedure that reduces or reshapes the labia minora, or the tissue around the vaginal opening. It is performed when a woman is dissatisfied with their appearance, which can cause discomfort, reduced self-confidence, and decreased sexual pleasure. The goal of labioplasty is to improve the appearance of the external genitalia and eliminate functional problems.
In most cases, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
Who are the candidates for labial correction?
The best candidates for labioplasty are women who are seriously concerned about the appearance of their labia, whether for aesthetic or functional reasons. This procedure is often considered when these changes affect a woman’s self-esteem or interfere with sexual enjoyment.
Preparation for the procedure
Before the procedure, some laboratory tests need to be performed. The patient undergoes a consultation and examination with the surgeon, where the extent of the required procedure is assessed, and expected results are discussed. Before the procedure, it is necessary to stop taking certain medications, especially those from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid, such as Aspirin, Andol, or Acisal. This helps prevent prolonged bleeding and hematomas (bruising) after the surgery, which significantly enhances and speeds up recovery.
How does the labiaplasty operation look like?
This is a procedure performed on a very sensitive area, but it is actually a minor surgical procedure that lasts just over an hour, depending on the extent of the correction needed. It is most commonly performed under local anesthesia, although general anesthesia may sometimes be used. The decision depends on the results of the preoperative tests the patient has undergone and the patient’s personal preference.
The procedure involves removing excess skin from the labia minora, reshaping them, and suturing the edges. The sutures are usually resorbable (self-dissolving), so there is no need to remove stitches. Labiaplasty can be performed on one or both inner labia to achieve a symmetrical and natural appearance.
Recovery and duration
Recovery usually takes up to 10 days, during which time women may experience mild pain, discomfort, a burning sensation, and swelling in the operated area. As with other surgeries, inflammation and bleeding may occur, and the surgeon informs the patient about this beforehand and provides instructions on how to alleviate these issues. By following the instructions, the risk of complications is significantly reduced, and they tend to last much shorter. During the postoperative period, it is advisable to rest and avoid any strenuous activities. Naturally, sexual intercourse should be avoided for an average of 4 to 6 weeks.
