For many people, the aging process of the face is not limited to the lower two-thirds but also affects the eyebrow and forehead area. Traditionally, this was addressed with a classic eyebrow lift method, which often had the undesired effect of lifting the medial part of the eyebrow, resulting in an unnatural, surprised expression. Therefore, our method for correcting drooping eyebrows primarily focuses on lifting the outer, lateral part of the eyebrow. Depending on the patient’s age and the degree of eyebrow droop, we use two correction methods:

Transpalpebral Brow Lift

This method involves correcting the eyebrows in conjunction with blepharoplasty (transpalpebral brow lift) through an incision in the upper eyelid area. This technique is suitable for younger individuals with mild ptosis requiring a minor adjustment of up to approximately 5mm. The advantage of this procedure is the use of a single incision to correct both the eyelids and eyebrows, while the drawback is the limited ability to lift the eyebrow and the temporary duration of the effect. Occasionally, a temporary visible indentation of the skin may occur in the area where the suture is placed to lift the eyebrow.

Lateral Brow Lift

Eyebrow Lift

For most individuals, we recommend the temporal (lateral) brow lift, which is performed through a skin incision hidden in the hairline at the temples on both sides. Depending on the extent of loose skin in the eyelid and cheekbone areas, we may use an endoscopic technique if necessary. Ideally, we first perform the eyebrow and cheekbone lift, and after healing and stabilization of the tissue in its new position over a few months, we perform blepharoplasty. This allows for an optimal assessment of the excess skin on the eyelids.

Preparation

A detailed discussion and examination precede the decision to undergo surgery. During this time, Prof. Dr. Mislav Gjurić will explain the nature of the problem and the realistic options for correction. The final decision and medical recommendation depend on the results of the examination and measurements of the position and elasticity of the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the eyebrows, eyelids, tear glands, and cheeks.

Eyebrow lifting can be performed under local anesthesia, enhanced local anesthesia, or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s choice.

Recovery

After the surgery, a protective bandage will be applied, and eye drops may be used to prevent inflammation and irritation. In the first 24 hours, it is recommended to use cold compresses or ice and to rest in a semi-reclining position. Stitches are usually removed five days after the surgery, and return to daily activities is possible after about ten days, depending on the individual situation. Patients traveling from outside Zagreb can return home with an escort the day after the surgery, with the next follow-up scheduled after 5 days. In the weeks following the surgery, swelling gradually decreases, and the final result can be expected after 3-6 months.
